This year we celebrate the incomparable beauty and diversity of Indonesia. Join us as we explore the geography, history, art, music, cuisine and more of this vast and varied country at Donham Plaza in Middletown, Ohio.

  • Friday, October 2 - Middfest Opening Ceremonies
    MIDDFEST OPENING CEREMONIES at 5:30 P.M.
    Middfest continues until 10 pm

  • Saturday, October 3 - Super Saturday for Kids
    Registration begins at 9:00 a.m.
    Round Robin International Performances 10 am to Noon
    Middfest open 10 am – 10 pm

  • October 4, Sunday, Middfest opens at Noon
    Exhibits close at 6 pm
    INDONESIAN FINALE 6 – 8 pm

This Year's Featured Country: INDONESIA

A premiere cultural event with dance, music and food from many countries throughout the world. Held annually in Middletown, Ohio, USA, Middfest has celebrated a different country each year since 1981.

Some of the highlights performance and exhibits are:
* Wayang Kulit
* Wayang Golek
* Dance and Gamelan (Javanese Orchestra)
* Handy craft, wood carving, stone, silver craft, etc
* Batik making demonstration
* Traditional clothes Fashion Show

Admission
Adults $5 for the entire weekend; children 12 and under free

Gamelan Open House

Join us for an evening of music and refreshments.
Our annual open house at Hyde Park Union Church is an ideal introduction to gamelan music. In just one evening, you'll learn to play a simple song on a variety of gamelan instruments.

Experienced members of the Performance Ensemble will also present some advanced pieces for your listening pleasure. If you would like to learn more, you are welcome to attend the free beginning gamelan class that begins one week later on Tuesday, October 13, 2009.

Beginning Gamelan Classes

Free beginning gamelan class sessions will be held at Hyde Park Union Church every Tuesday evening from October 13, 2009 through November 17, 2009, meeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.

You are welcome to attend regardless of your musical background -- all you need is a desire to learn. Graduates of the beginning class are welcome to join the Performance Ensemble and perform in the annual spring concert on Sunday, April 25, 2010.

If you would like to attend the beginning gamelan class, please plan to attend the open house on Tuesday, October 6 or contact the instructor at info@chicagogamelan.org.

Performance Ensemble

The Performance Ensemble meets at Hyde Park Union Church on most Tuesday evenings. You are welcome to join us if you have previously studied Javanese gamelan music or dance. There is typically a modest class fee.

If you have not previously studied Javanese gamelan music and would like to learn, you are welcome to attend the free beginning gamelan class that begins on Tuesday, October 13, 2009.
